CHIMES; We will be playing at Reid Park Zoo's ZooLights on Thursday night, December 13. We must arrive at the Zoo by 5:45 and play from 6-8. We will wear our black pants, comfortable shoes (we will be standing for 2 hours), PLAIN, RED SWEATSHIRTS, Santa Hats would be great, and gloves might be needed. We need EVERYONE to be there so we can sound great and be great ambassadors of our school!
DRAMA - Performing "Ebony Scrooge" at the Jr. Civitan/Drama Dinner Theater on Friday, December 14. Tell your friends to save the date!
5th/6th Grade:
Monday - Reviewing adding notes to measures. HOMEWORK that will be due on Oct. 3.
Continuing with our special recorder songs.
Wednesday - Homework is due!! Continuing with Recorder songs. Learning "C" in our books.
Friday - Singing Day!
Periods 1,5,7 (7th/8th grade)
Practicing for our upcoming concert during the school day on October 25.
Tuesday - Continuing with Henry Mancini and the Theme from the Pink Panther. Reviewing instrumentation and style (jazz). Beginning a drawing to go along with the music (If you were the designer of the CD jacket - what would you use to sell this CD?) Writing a description of the music in 5 good sentences of 6 or more words. (to be completed in class)
HOMEWORK - DUE ON THURSDAY. Reading Mancini Biography and answering questions.
Thursday - HOMEWORK IS DUE!!
Continuing with Mancini. Finishing pictures and stories. Practicing for concert.
Periods 2,4,6 (7th/8th grade)
Tuesday - working in groups. Creating a Rhythm Score. Copying each other's part on to their own paper. Lining up all the beats - making it neat, orderly and easy to read.
HOMEWORK - COMPLETED SCORE.
Thursday - Practicing in groups. Keeping a steady beat. Finishing together. Compositions will be performed on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Band and Orchestra Students; REMEMBER - You are to be practicing 10-15 minutes EVERY day. This is your homework assignment!!!! Just like in written school assignments, if you don't keep up with your homework, you will start to fall behind! Falling behind leads to discouragement, not practicing, and finally quitting. PARENTS; Please ensure that your child is bringing their instrument home and playing their lessons every day.
5th GRADE;
Monday - Reviewing space and line notes. Beginning new recorder song using G, A, and B.
HOMEWORK - Worksheet that will be due on Wednesday!
Wednesday - Homework due. Continue working on new songs (from song binders) on recorder. Add CD accompaniment. Learn new note "C".

All classes begin with the singing 2 verses of the National Anthem.

Week of September 10
I love September! The weather changes, autumn begins, my youngest daughter turns 21 this month and my birthday is on the 13th!
The 13th is a very important day to remember - IT'S PICTURE DAY at AOT Middle School. The Band, Orchestra, Steel Drums and Chimes will all have their group pictures taken on Thursday. Everyone should come to school dressed (they can change later) in their Music Uniform. Just a reminder; the Music Uniform is....Black Dress Pants, Black Dress shoes, Black socks, PLAIN white, collared shirts (can be long or short sleeved) I am told the pictures will be taken before 3rd period.PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR BAND OR ORCHESTRA INSTRUMENT!!!!!!

Week of September 4
BAND
Beginning Band is off to a great start! Everyone should be practicing 10-15 minutes every day. The students are writing their practice assignments on the front inside cover of their books. Everyone should have STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE BOOK 1. Beginning Band meets every Monday and Thursday. We are already playing 3 notes.
ORCHESTRA
Beginning orchestra meets every Tuesday. Please make sure your child is sitting up tall, instrument in left hand and held out to the side (not in front), and bow is held properly (there are pictures in their book). This past week we learned to play 4 new notes on the D string and stickers were put on the fingerboards to help find the notes. Remember - it's a GUIDE - not exact. If strings get out of tune, students can always bring them to me and I will tune them. They can also be taken to Instrumental Music and they will tune them for free. Everyone should have ORCHESTRA EXPRESSIONS BOOK 1.
STEEL DRUMS AND CHIMES
are off to a great start! We could use 1 or 2 more players in CHIMES, but STEEL DRUMS is a full group.
ADVANCED BAND AND ORCHESTRA
has been working out of the lesson book and has been playing some arrangements. Both groups are sounding great!

Sings the National Anthem at the beginning of every class.
Wednesday - Playing page 8 in the recorder book. There will be a homework assignment on Wednesday that will be due on Friday .If your child is absent on Assignment Day, I write their name on their paper and send it to their homeroom.

Thursday - Continuing with rhythm. Clapping rhythms from our Rhythm Sheet. No Homework on Thursdays.
