This week in MUSIC..............
5th and 6th grade
have started playing the recorder in class. We know 3 notes; B,A,and G. There will be an assignment on Wednesday, August 29, that will be due on Friday, August 31. Music Class meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this year. We are singing and playing recorders on Monday and Wednesday. Friday is simply "Singing Day". Recorders may go home at any time, but the students need to remember to have their recorder in clas on Mondays and Wednesdays, or they will loose points on their Participation grade.
7th and 8th grade
started off the year learning about Note Values and Counting. We have had 2 assignments so far; 1) Syllabus signed and 2) Note Value worksheet. Class meets every Tuesday and Thursday and Homework is assigned on Tuesday. Homework is then due on Thursday. When a student is absent on homework day, I write their name on the assignment and put it on my whiteboard. It is their responsibility to get their homework and complete it before the due date.
On Tuesday, August 28, we will be continuing to learn about counting in music. There will be an assignment that will be due on Thursday, August 30. We sing at the beginning of every class. A Participation Grade is given for every class. Participation includes singing (I must be able to hear them), asking questions and being prepared. Being prepared means having a pencil (no pen!), Music Folder, Planner, and a reading book.
BAND
Beginning Band is off to a great start! Everyone should be practicing 10-15 minutes every day. The students are writing their practice assignments on the front inside cover of their books. Everyone should have STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE BOOK 1.
ORCHESTRA
Beginning orchestra meets every Tuesday. We are learning to pluck and bow on the strings and are only using "open strings" right now (not using any fingers on the left hand). Please make sure your child is sitting up tall, instrument in left hand and held out to the side (not in front), and bow is held properly (there are pictures in their book). Everyone should have ORCHESTRA EXPRESSIONS BOOK 1.
STEEL DRUMS AND CHIMES
are off to a great start! We could use 1 or 2 more players in CHIMES, but STEEL DRUMS is a full group.
